Once Upon A Happy Note...

 

 

The PMC Instrumental Ensemble (PMCIE) held a  Christmas Concert last December 9, 2007 at the University of Makati Auditorium, Makati City (click here for map and directions). A portion of the concert's proceeds went to Mithing Pangarap Educational Foundation , Inc. a non-stock, non-profit organization founded in August 1988 which aims to develop the youth of Smokey Mountain to be self-reliant and productive individuals of society through its educational and livelihood programs. The rest of the proceeds will fund the trip of the PMCIE to New York on April 2008 for a series of concerts.

 

The children performed the following:

  • Overture from Carmen (Bizet)
  • Sabre Dance (Khachaturian)
  • Excerpts from The Sound of Music (Rodgers & Hammerstein)
  • Kalesa (Ernani Cuenco)
  • Medley of Ilocano Folk Songs (Arranged by E. Laureola)
  • Medley of Visayan Folk Songs (Arranged by E. Laureola)
  • Payapang Daigdig (Felipe de Leon)
  • Awiting Pamasko
  • Medley of Christmas Carols

 

The children were joined by Tenor Nolyn Cabahug who sang O Holy Night by Adolphe Adam.  He performed Payapang Daigdig with the PMCIE on angklung, glockenspiel, Montessori Bells and metallophone.  You can view the performance here:

The concert also had  the special participation of the Philippine Montessori Center Violin Ensemble.  They performed Volunatry (Maclean), Concerto for Violin in A, First Movement (Vivaldi), Concerto for Two Violins in D, First Movement (Vivaldi) and Canon in D (Pachelbel).
