Filipino kid-instrumentalists wow the Big Apple

The Philippine Montessori Center Instrumental Ensemble (PMCIE) 2007-2008 was the first batch in the 40 year history of The Philippine Montessori Center to perform outside the country.  Upon the invitation of The Children's Orchestra Society (COS), a non profit organization based in New York under the leadership of Executive Director Dr. Yeou-Cheng Ma and Musical Director Michael Dadap, PMCIE performed in a joint concert with the COS entitled "Meet the Composers" at The Queens Theatre In The Park located in Flushing Meadows, Corona Park, New York last April 2008.

During the joint concert, Michael Dadap conducted the COS Young Symphonic Ensemble, composed of children between the ages 10 and 18, and PMCIE in rendering pieces which he arranged especially for the two orchestras.  The combined group only had two rehearsals and Mr. Dadap was impressed at how easily the children, with the guidance of their teachers, adapted to the different style of the orchestration in such a short time.
